The following is a letter from Baithul Khair Foundation, one of the programs we support in Sri Lanka. Read on to learn about the good they do.

At present, we are focusing on the following project with the full support of One Ummah Foundation.

Kanji (porridge) Program

Feed the hungry with healthy food less cost/dry rations program

According to the research done by the health decision it was found that 40 percent of school students do not consume morning meal. Students who does not have the morning meal, becomes tired after sometime and they are unable to concentrate their studies. Research further indicates such problems do exist among the school students and it is disturbing the health. It stated, ample strength is essential for children to follow up their education and it is not fulfilled in the correct manner. They had to face many health hazards.

Not only school children, but majority of villagers in our area to combine breakfast and lunch into one meal, while they go hungry for dinner. Therefore we are trying to help in whatever possible ways within our capabilities/limit. We have started some program such as Kanji and dry rations distribution n with full support of One Ummah Foundation. The children, widows, poor elderly, and families in extreme poverty are the beneficiaries of these projects.

Kanji (porridge) is made out of different rice, grains and coconut milk. It is simple healthy meal. We are so fortunate to have been blessed with these simple projects with big leverage. Average person is able to have a breakfast or dinner for 15 cents. With the USD 100 we can serve breakfast for 750 people.

Also we are providing dry rations to pack to families in extreme poverty. Cost per dry ration pack is USD 20. You donation for this program will be very useful one as we are spending your donation in most effective way and it reaching the correct people without any deductions.

Drinking Water Projects

Providing Clean Drinking Water is a form of Sadaqah Jariah as it provides benefits to all of creation for years to come. One can make the intention of donating a water connection for them self or on behalf of a loved one who has passed away, and Insha’Allah the person it is intended for will continue to receive rewards for years to come.

Clean water and good sanitation are essential for healthy and productive lives. People of our areas are struggling to receive drinking water. Please note that these poor families can access to tap water easily if they have money. Therefore, it would be a great help if we can help these people. Cost would be USD 250/- for a water connection/family.

Preschool

We are running preschool for poor children including orphans, which was opened in May 2008. The school is running smoothly imparting a good quality of education to the community ably supported by 5 trained teachers.

Currently, 60 students receive education at the school and it is our intention, to increase this number to 75 b end of this year.

We kindly appeal you to either consider a one-time contribution or a monthly contribution towards the upkeep of the school. This would be of great help for the poor kids taking their first steps in education.

Orphans Programs

Orphans in Bibile area, as a part of the society, suffer the most because of lack of support from our society to address their needs and welfare. Often, orphans in this area are supported by their relatives at a bare minimum survival stage. A good number of them may be very intelligent but, because of lack of financial support, they cannot develop and utilize their skills through education and are unable to avail the opportunities around them.

Why Support an Orphan?

“And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan and the captive”. [Al-Quran - 76:8]

“Therefore treat not the Orphan with harshness”. [Al-Quran - 93:9]

Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d: The Prophet said, “I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this,” putting his index and middle fingers together.

[Sahih Bukhari - 73:34]

Baithul Khair Foundation has taken the challenge to reach out to these orphan children and make them feel that there are people in this world who love and care for them. BKF one-to-one orphan sponsorship scheme is by far one of the most popular ways of helping poor and needy individuals and families. We are currently supporting 12 Orphans. The Orphan Sponsorship Scheme is designed to assist orphans and their families in both the short and long term

The objective of this project is to:

• meet basic survival needs of orphan children
• provide financial support to put them through schools
• monitor their progress to ensure that they complete their education
• remove obstacles that may hinder their progress

For only USD 45 (LKR 5000/-) per month (USD 540 per annum the requirements for a child to receive a sound level of care and education are provided. This includes the provision of School (tuition) fee ad School Books and StationaryClothingFoods ( money for the orphan’s family to ensure the orphans well being)

All orphans sponsored by the scheme are individually selected by us. Only poor orphans (an orphan is a child whose father has passed away) are selected. A child’s age, family size and living conditions are also looked at to assess need. Once sponsorship has begun our volunteers continue to maintain regular contact with the child to ensure wellbeing and that the child continues to progress through school.

Upon sponsorship we will send you an information pack with details of the orphan you are sponsoring, such as their age, circumstance, schooling, information about their community and a local address for correspondence. In addition, we will continue to provide you with annual feedback updates on the child’s wellbeing and school reports.
