The Importance of Clean Water

The water crisis that is currently plaguing the poor and developing countries of the world attests to the need for aid in such matters. We are aware of the immediate devastating effects that poor water sanitation has upon people. Among these are the spread of water-borne illnesses, poor hygiene, and lack of sanitation. However, what may be overlooked are the long-term effects that poor water quality may cause upon inpiduals.

According a to an article released by the United Nations News Centre on April 5, 2010, a lack of an adequate clean water supply may negatively affect children’s education and eventually lead to premature loss of life. It is perhaps these long-term effects that stress the urgency for aiding those in need, particularly by providing clean water for use in daily life. When a child’s education is hampered, it is not just that child’s life that is affected, but it is a future generation that is placed at risk. It is in this manner that one problem may lead to another, and so a chain reaction is in place. If we continue to allow this vicious cycle to perpetuate, then we will only tackle problems after they arise and take a reactive approach. However, it is pertinent to take a proactive approach by dealing with the root of problems and preventing other issues from arising in the first place.

A clean water supply is a basic need, and one that has a far-reaching impact upon quality of life. One Ummah Foundation (OUF) with the coordination of non-profit organizations across the world, strives to provide clean water for families and villages abroad. 100% of the proceeds donated to OUF reach the less-fortunate, and serve to benefit them in a variety of ways.
